Radical Farm Camp
We have been running Radical Farm Camp (RFC) for 3 years at Ragman’s Lane Farm in the Wye Valley and in Dartington, Devon.
On Radical Farm Camp, we explore what life looks like in practice on a radical-diapsorist Jewish farm in the UK. Whilst we are planning to set up our own farm (link to land project page), we have been offering these week-long immersive programmes at different farms
Participants learn practical organic food growing skills through hands on experience in a working market garden, they get to trace Jewish histories of food and farming, engaging in ancestral practices of growing and preparing food, cooking together and enjoying delicious farm to table feasts.
We also explore the Torah of a Jewish land justice & how we might get involved in land justice struggles in the UK today. We wake early to pray & sing in community, We experience a proper ‘Farmer’s Shabbat’, resting together at the culmination of our retreat.
In our 2025 programme, we explored a deep dive into the Torah of wheat, we visited Mariam at Radical Plant Folk (a POC-led growing project supporting learning, connection and sharing of plants, herbal medicine and cultural heritage), learned about queer hedge-laying, visiting and volunteered at School Farm CSA, and visited the Apricot Centre, Martin Crawford’s Forest Garden, and other amazing projects in the area.
“Growing food has helped me come back to myself, to know who I am beyond the grasping and unbelonging. It has shown me the many ways in which I am woven into a tapestry of being, of which we are all a part. It has allowed me to tune my ear to the call of the earth and tread on its surface with an ever-loving step. And it has shown me to walk in the footsteps of my ancestors when I couldn’t find their stories in the history books.”
“...and they shall beat their swords into plowshares”
“To tend the earth is always then to tend our destiny, our freedom and our hope.”
